The Sad Bastard Book Club
"Another Family Dinner At The Saturn Residence Ends In Tears"

Our favorite wordy non-book book club is getting prepped to record their second album. We are really excited to be releasing this album. The band's sound has come a long way since their first record. Overall it has gotten bigger, doomier, and spanish-ier? (tracks are filled with the new addition of flamenco/salsa grooves).

The band is also trying to fund the recording in a web 2.0 sort of way... Which is funny because it will be recorded in that house you see right above. Go to their Kickstarter page to find more details of how to get:
baked goods, a story about you, a story about you where you don't die, yourself deified, and most importantly how to GET ON THE ALBUM ITSELF!!!

The Sad Bastard Book Club - Preview

The SBBC posted this mix to their Kickstarter page last night. It is the first listen to "The Pauper Choir of San Jose" or some other ungodly long title like that. Go take a listen and get STOKED!

GET CONCENTRIC TODAY!

Concentric is released today on both Bandcamp and iTunes.

Bandcamp has the ability to buy a physical CD with an included instant digital download. I am impatient and I bet the majority of you are as well. But at the same time, I still love looking at graphic design and reading liner notes, so maybe you do to?

Recording with the Sad Bastard Book Club

Finally got a chance to make it out to the SBBC doom house. They have taken over an old saloon in San Gregorio to record "Another Family Dinner at the Saturn Residence Ends In Tears." from the couple of songs I have heard (and uncategorically excited text messages throughout the week) the songs are epic.

Eric Shapiro from Daikon is engineering the sessions. The album is going to be a big leap from the last. The full band that has been a new addition to the SBBC live show is sounding amazing on tape.

This is so much more than a folk band now. It has grown into a monster of sound. The songs keep rootsy qualities but work far more into Godspeed explosions than ever before. I am really excited to hear how it all comes together!

7 Days Left to Help the SBBC

The Sad Bastard Book Club is funding their new album by the use of Kickstarter. What does that mean you ask? Well, they are asking for donations to help them rent an old house and fill it to the rafters with amps, broken pianos, people, and an astonishing lack of reading material... because there will be no time to read with all the RECORDING OF AN EPIC ALBUM!

What do you get in return? Not only the happiness of being awesome and a great person. You will also get a fabulous gift of thanks depending on your level of donation. You seriously need to read the list at Kickstarter to believe it. Baked goods, stories about you, stories about you in which you don't die, and the ability to be in the old house clapping and adding your voice to the album.

I have already heard a good amount of the original demos, and this album is going to be amazing. You will definitely want to be a part of it.

So please go over to Kickstarter. They are 7 days away and 78% complete in terms of reaching their monetary goal. Give a hand and push them over the edge. The show of support will win you friends for a lifetime. And we have also tasted the vegan cookies you could win. DELICIOUS!

Concentric by Summer of Glaciers

Concentric will be released February 22nd 2010.

Over the course of a year, Summer of Glaciers has been constructing his first proper full length. The result is a beautiful cross-pollination of post-rock, electronic, and organic ambience titled Concentric. The album is partly what you would expect from a SOG release (dark swirling textures and moving melodies harmonizing to infinity). But on Concentric there is definitely a new side showing that really embraces the electronic aspect of what he does. Throughout the album you hear influences of Dubstep, Chip Tune noisiness, heavy groove based hip-hop drums, and vocals?

There is also a new aspect heard in these songs. Optimism. The concept of the album is based on our daily interactions with one another. With or without knowing it, we are sharing ideas and emotions in quantities that just a few years ago would be unheard of. The album mirrors this with each song feeding into the next creating an overall arc of "knowledge" throughout the album.

Usually Summer of Glaciers albums are made in isolation, but Ryan really wanted this album to stand out from his previous. To accomplish this, “Concentric” was produced and engineered by local electronic duo James & Evander and has a guest vocal by Emil Rapstine of Texas band, The Angelus. Not to mention some stolen vocal samples from the Sad Bastard Book Club.

We are extremely excited to be releasing this album, and look forward to sharing it with you.
